Thermal storage

Fundamental and applied research on storage materials and their application for renewable electricity and electric grid management, and space heating.

Projects

  • Thermal energy storage (TES) as a grid- scalable solution to temporal mismatches in energy production and demand. Our ultimate aims are TES materials and systems capable of storing high-quality heat (T > 250°C) with capture rates (several 100 MW) and capacities needed for utility-scale power plants and industry.
  • Heat and mass transfer in sensible, latent and thermochemical storage systems
  • Fluid dynamic control of sensible and dessicant storage systems
  • Heat exchangers for thermal storage systems
